Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is the branch of engineering most closely associated with the environment, both natural and man-made. Renewal of our old cities, reduction of air and water pollution, planning and building of new communities, and providing water, power and high speed ground transportation systems are the responsibility of the civil engineer. Providing these services involves construction of dams, bridges, buildings, tunnels, power plants, highways and harbors in harmony with the natural environment and with people’s needs.

The breadth of a civil engineering education is a good background for many careers in this technological age. Many go into sales of materials and equipment, while others go into allied areas in energy, communications, infrastructure, computer programming and law. Some go on to graduate school in business administration or medicine and many find their training an excellent route to management positions.
