General ISTR Directed research objectives for student:
- Review related published literature and create a bibliography of readings.
- Create a description of related work with proper references and citations.
- Write a section on how hypothesis testing applies to your project.
- Present regular status reports at group meetings.
- Write a description of the project proposal.
- Depending upon the project:
- Design a solution.
- Write a section on the activities of Alice, Bob, Eve, and Malory for your project..
- Write users manual.
- Implement the solution (i.e. write the software or build the hardware).
- Perform experiments
- Write up experimental results
- Summarize findings of research.
- Write a proposal for future related work.
- Write the final report suitable for submission as a technical publication.
Steps for an ISTR Directed research project.
- Select topic area
- Literature search and bibliography building (2-10 articles per week).
- Write short (1 - 3 sentences) project description
- Create top level project block diagram with inputs and outputs.
- Perform feasibility study, demonstration or experiments.
- Create a block diagram of the system.
- Create a detailed diagram of your system (schematic, flow chart, etc.)
- Implement a prototype solution.
- Test your implementation.
- Debug prototype and collect extensive data.
- Evaluate results in terms of H0 and Match rates.
- Write final report.
- Create final presentation
