Library Instruction session outline:

Information literacy workshops cover:

  1. computing, printing and Okey accounts
  2. remote library database access
  3. navigating the Library home page as gateway to resources, services and student support
  4. finding books and reserve materials in print and electronic formats through the library online catalog
  5. database selection and database searching at beginner and intermediate levels (journal databases)
  6. articulating, defining and refining search topics (with search examples and topics)
  7. evaluating research results
  8. utilizing information and applying it to projects / assignments at hand
  9. finding journal articles (from searching to selecting to retrieving / ordering full text documents)
  10. citation styles with examples (using RefWorks citation manager)
  11. academic research versus "googling it"

Mission:
Library and Information Literacy Instruction will foster good information-seeking behavior in a climate of life-long learning.  Students will learn basic and intermediate skills and concepts of Information Literacy combined with the ability to evaluate and complete the entire information seeking process in an advanced academic library environment.
