BOOKS |
Books, videos, and
dvds can be found in the OSU-Tulsa Library Catalog by author, title, keyword, or subject
heading. Keyword searching allows you to AND terms together to produce a more
focused list of available books.
You
may want to check the Library
of Congress Subject Headings Reference
Z695 .Z8 L524
for a comprehensive list of terms to search in the Online Catalog.
Once
you have identified a book you want, note the location and entire call
number to identify where the book is located in the Library.
We also have
approximately 40,000 full-text electronic books. These can be found through
the Catalog or by going to the Library Website and clicking on Books
and Electronic Book Collections. To view NetLibrary Ebooks remotely, you must set up an account in the
Library.
WorldCat Database Database - This is a database of books cataloged by libraries worldwide. It is a good source to verify bibliographic information, to see what books have been published on a specific subject and to see what libraries own them.
MEDIA |
There are numerous Videos and DVDs based on children's literature: please search the catalog using: children's films and videorecording as keywords.
A sampling of a few include:
Best of Dr. Seuss (Video) |
Mother Goose Video Treasury (Video) |
| Bread Comes to Life (Video) Media TX769 .B74 2003 This ALA best children's video showing bread from wheat in the field to bread on the table. |
Where The Wild Things Are (Video) Media PZ7 .S3465 Wh 2001 |
| Harold and the Purple Crayon (Video) Media PZ7 .S3465 Ha 2002 |
A full-text database provides full-text access to periodical, journal, and magazine articles. In most case all you need to do is print out the article. From the Library Webpage, click on Journals and then click on General or a Broad Subject. Each database is designed so that you can usually search by keyword, subject, author, title or article, and/or title or the periodical. You also can limit by date as well as other parameters.
DATABASES
An index database provides a citation to the article, i.e. title of
article, author, journal title, volume and issue number, page number, and
date. You should check other databases for possible full-text coverage. You
may need to consult the Catalog or Journals by Title to determine if the journal is owned
by OSU-Tulsa Library in paper or microfiche.

Journals are considered to be more scholarly in focus than magazines and are often peer-reviewed. They may be available electronically full-text, in print, in microfiche or in any combination of these three formats. The following list of journals is only a selective list of available titles. Note that the dates of electronic journals are subject to change due to publisher and database vendor availability. Dates of coverage for print and microfiche journals can be found in the OSU - Tulsa Library Catalog or Journals by Title.
Specialized websites are excellent
sources of information. Commercial, governmental, and nonprofit organizations,
i.e. universities, associations, societies, libraries, etc. maintain websites.
These websites provide an overview of the field, historical information, current
trends, statistics, publish a newsletter or journal, identify recommended
publications in the field, advertise workshops and conferences, provide information
on career opportunities, and supply contact names, etc.
