Our library instruction program teaches students to navigate successfully through the maze of virtual and traditional resources and services. Sessions last from 50 minutes to in-depth workshops in our new library computer lab, the classroom, or computer labs with hands-on practice for the students depending on assignments, type of research and information needs.
Our resources are continuously growing, particularly in the area of electronic databases and online full text materials. We offer access to 35,000 online journal titles with full text in 110+ databases and 45,000 electronic books online , links to other library catalogs, email reference , virtual reference , remote database access , online Interlibrary Loan, and more.
Information literacy is a cornerstone of the library's mission in serving our student population. Whether our students are returning after a long absence from school or continuing on from high school, our library instructional services focus on more than completing one assignment, but in facilitating the development of life-long information competency.
Tom Thorisch, the OSU-Tulsa instruction librarian, is trained in adult learning theories, instructional techniques and progressive course delivery. Tom is also actively involved in COIL (Community of Oklahoma Instruction Librarians)
Online research assistance is available for students unable to attend sessions:

Library instruction sessions are available anytime throughout the semester. When students are struggling with assignments consider requesting a session tailored to a particular assignment or project.
As an alternative, small group meetings outside of class are also available. Student groups can contact Tom Thorisch directly at 594-8146 or tom.thorisch@okstate.edu . This is helpful when only a few students need assistance with their research.
Our library instruction program covers:
Computing, printing and access issues
Remote library database access
Database selection and searching for beginner and intermediate levels
Defining and refining search topics
Evaluating research results
Tracking journal articles (from searching to selecting and retrieving full-text documents)
Citation styles with examples
Internet searching for valid and reliable information
