"The World Factbook is produced by CIA's Directorate of Intelligence. The Factbook is a comprehensive resource
of facts and statistics on more than 250 countries and other entities."

Columbus Travel Guides (Website)
Under each country's travel guide, click on health and entertainment to locate information on food and diet.

Country Profiles (Website)
The profiles are produced by the Library of Congress as part of their Country Studies Program. The profiles give
brief information on the country's history, geography, society, economy, transportation, telecommunications,
government and politics, and national security. More up-to-date than Country Studies.

Country Studies (Website)
The website contains the online version of books previously published (19888-1989) by the Federal Division of
the Library of Congress under their Country Studies/Area Handbook Program. The focus is on lesser-known
areas of the regions in which U.S. Forces might be deployed. The series is not all-inclusive.

CountryWatch (Website)
Covers demographic, political, economic, business, cultural and environmental subject matter. Please take caution
in printing out reports. Entries can be quite lengthy.

CultureGrams

Print and Online version will give a small paragraph on diet.

CultureGrams Database (Online)
The online version will give recipes for each country.

Encyclopedia of Food and Culture

You may look under a specific food and it may have an entry. Usually does NOT contain an entry for a specific country.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States (WebSite)
Can search by country and “food”… must look thru documents to determine relevancy. You need to know or what
continent the country is located is located.

Geo-data: the world geographical dictionary
REF G103.5 .G36 2005
This one volume includes basic information about a country along with climate and vegetation and natural resources.
It is arranged alphabetically by the name of each country.

Healthy Food Recipes (Website)
Selective recipes from a few countries can be found under ethnic cuisine.

Illustrative Book of World Rankings
REF HA 155 .K87 2001
This book does exactly what the title suggests. The book gives categories including food topics and ranks countries
within the topic. The food category begins on page 335.

Infoplease (Website)
Information about countries can be found in various sections of this website including almanac, atlas and encyclopedia.

Nutrition and Well-Being A to Z
May search by country although it groups countries together like northern Europeans, place name of country and diets
to get better results.

STAT-USA (Database) Ask at Reference Desk. Only available on-campus.
Under the section of Globus and NTDB, you can click on “International trade Library highlights” and then country-specific
reports in the library
. Next search by country.

UNICEF
Right next to “home” in the right hand corner, you will find a link to “info by country”. You can then pick “at a glance” and
choose what part you want to examine. Under Statistics and then nutrition will give you very precise statistics about
nutrition in the particular country you have chosen.

US Department of State Background Notes (Website)
" These publications include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign
relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty.  The Notes are updated/revised
by the Office of Electronic Information and Publications of the Bureau of Public Affairs as they are received from the
Department's regional bureaus and are added to the database of the Department of State website you are now using. “

Country Pages
Within each Background Note is a link under "OFFICIAL NAME" that goes to the respective "country page" containing
additional information. For a specific country, click on the Background Note link below, or, for a list of the countries in a
region of the world ( with links to respective country pages) go to the Countries and Other Areas section in each of these
regions: Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Near East, South Asia, and the Western Hemisphere . “

World Health Organization (Website)
Country information obtained by WHO can be found at http://www.who.int/countries/en/
