TULSA – While there have been no confirmed cases of swine flu in Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is working closely with local and state health officials to monitor the situation and educate students, faculty and staff about the virus.

Symptoms of the swine flu virus may include fever greater than 100 degrees, body aches, coughing, sore throat, respiratory congestion, and in some cases, diarrhea and vomiting. The symptoms of swine flu in humans are similar to the symptoms of seasonal influenza. Even if a patient tests positive for influenza, that does not mean they have swine flu. Please see a physician if you experience any of these symptoms.

OSU University Health Services in Stillwater is testing patients with flu-like symptoms, however no recent patients have tested positive for any class of influenza.

Keeping your hands clean is one of the best ways to keep from contacting and spreading germs and illnesses. Scrubbing with soap and water for 20 seconds removes dirt and most germs. However, using a disinfectant cleaner kills germs, giving even better protection. Wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispensers are located throughout all the buildings of OSU-Tulsa’s campus.

The Center for Disease Control has updated its travel advisory for Mexico, recommending that U.S. travelers avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico. The following sites provide helpful information: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentSwineFluMexico.aspx.
