Former House Representative Betty Boyd Appointed to OSU-Tulsa Trustees
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TULSA – Former legislator and journalist Betty Boyd has been appointed by Governor Brad Henry to Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s Board of Trustees.

Boyd was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1990 and served a total of 10 years in the legislature. She co-authored Senate Bill 1426, the 1998 legislation that created OSU-Tulsa, with then Senator Charles R. Ford.

“As a legislator, Ms. Boyd played a significant role in the creation of OSU-Tulsa, which led the way for public higher education opportunities in Tulsa. Eleven years later, we are honored to have her leadership on the Board to help guide OSU-Tulsa into the future,” said OSU-Tulsa President Gary Trennepohl.

A native Tulsan, Boyd is a graduate of Central High School. She began her career as an on-air journalist for KOTV Channel 6. Later, she spent more than 15 years at KTUL Channel 8, before leaving the television news industry after 25 years to join the education field. She spent 10 years as the director of information services for the Tulsa County Area Vocational-Technical School District, now known as Tulsa Tech, and currently serves as vice chair of their Board of Education.

Boyd was inducted into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame in 1996 and received the American Women in Radio and Television Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998.

The membership of the OSU-Tulsa Board of Trustees is made up of nine people appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. Two of the nine are OSU/A&M Regents. Appointed by the Governor for a term of seven years, the Trustees oversee the university’s operations.

Boyd fills the vacancy left by Joel Sander, whose term is expiring June 30. OSU/A&M Regent Jay Helm was reappointed to another seven-year term earlier this month. Other Trustees include Ed Keller, Larry Mocha, OSU/A&M Regent Calvin Anthony, Jim Goodwin, Michael Johnson, Glenda Love and Henry Primeaux.
