OSU-Tulsa Earns Top Honors in Statewide Public Relations Competition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TULSA – Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s Marketing and Public Relations department won top honors in the state for its “Why Choose OSU-Tulsa?” enrollment campaign at the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association’s annual conference on July 13.

The statewide annual competition recognizes outstanding work in areas such as advertising, audio-visual communications, publications, photography, web design, news and feature writing, events promotion and campaigns.

This year’s competition included a record 460 entries in 33 categories from all of Oklahoma’s public and private colleges and universities. The entries were judged by out-of-state advertising, public relations and marketing professionals.

Dr. Mary Bea Drummond, director of marketing and public relations, accepted a first place Grand Award in the print advertising category and a second place Excellence Award in the radio advertising category for OSU-Tulsa’s enrollment campaign titled “Why Choose OSU-Tulsa?”

“We are pleased that OSU-Tulsa’s enrollment advertising efforts were recognized as the best in the state,” Drummond said. “The ‘Why Choose OSU-Tulsa’ campaign highlights common reasons students select OSU-Tulsa, ranging from our high-quality faculty to internationally recognized OSU degrees to lifelong friendships. We tried to capture the experiences of our students, and that’s a great recruitment tool.”

The enrollment campaign, which debuted last fall, included coordinating newspaper, magazine, radio and television ads, and Web site promotion. The campaign featured real students revealing the reasons behind their decision to attend OSU-Tulsa, as well as OSU-Tulsa faculty achievements and academic programs.

In addition, the university was honored with a second place Excellence Award for OSU-Tulsa’s spring, summer and fall 2009 class schedules. Drummond said the class schedules are more than a listing of class times.

“Our class schedules serve as a marketing tool designed to promote our academic offerings, provide students with a user-friendly guide that enables them to enroll easily, and increase the community’s awareness of the variety of OSU degrees and courses available in Tulsa,” Drummond said.

OSU-Tulsa also received an Honorable Mention in the highly competitive news writing category. The news release, “OSU-Tulsa Students and Professor Examine Creativity,” featured associate professor of marketing Tracy Suter’s new Creative Marketing course and his TAS-sel project for OSU’s first Creativity Initiative.
