TULSA – Oklahoma State University will offer its first Cowboy Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs starting Oct.10 at OSU-Tulsa to assist aspiring entrepreneurs in creating successful, growth-oriented businesses.

The Bootcamp is a rigorous six-session program presented by the Riata Center for Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business. The sessions will take place every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon through Nov. 14 in OSU-Tulsa’s Conference Center. Optional sessions about strategic topics will be offered on selected Saturdays from noon to 1 p.m.

“The Cowboy Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs will offer a high level of intense, hands-on training for those who have an idea or those who are in the early stages of business who want to work on their businesses to grow them,” said Nola Miyasaki, executive director of the Riata Center. “We offer practical knowledge as well as basic business tools that will help entrepreneurs be more successful. This is also an opportunity for entrepreneurs in Tulsa to learn from some of the best entrepreneurship teachers and successful entrepreneurs in the nation.”

Bootcamp classes will be taught by nationally recognized faculty in OSU’s Department of Entrepreneurship. Mentoring and coaching will be provided to individual businesses by the Riata Center consulting staff and MBA students. Guest entrepreneurs and special topical experts will offer insight, advice and inspiration.

Selected topics to be covered during the program include: determining good business concepts; knowledge of the customer and market; obtaining financing; making sense of numbers (accounting); creating and assessing business models; key legal issues in business; guerrilla marketing; doing more with spending less; approaching growth; writing great business plans; succeeding by one’s self; and obtaining information to organize a new business.
