TULSA (Oct. 5, 2009) – Oklahoma State University-Tulsa will host a unique multimedia exhibit Tuesday, Oct. 13 containing artifacts belonging to German-Americans interned in the U.S. during World War II.

“Vanished: German-American Civilian Internment, 1941-48” is a traveling exhibit housed in a converted school bus that illustrates historic stories and events through narrative texts, multi-media and artifacts. The exhibit is presented by TRACES, a nonprofit educational organization based in St. Paul, Minn.

The “bus-eum” will be located in Parking Lot C at OSU-Tulsa from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will detail how the U.S. Government interned 15,000 German-American civilians, including citizens and 4,058 Latin-American Germans brought to the U.S. and later exchanged for Nazi-held Americans during World War II. Internment camps in the U.S. included several in Oklahoma.

The organization’s goal is to present an unknown history to a wide audience, stimulating penetrating questions on the part of visitors to the exhibit. Organizers say the story behind the “Vanished” exhibit explores a virtually unknown, yet significant historical chapter of American World War II history.
