Friday, November 06, 2009International Education Week Activities Planned at OSU-TulsaFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASETULSA (Nov. 6, 2009) – OSU-Tulsa will join more than 100 countries worldwide to celebrate International Education Week Nov. 16-20.
OSU-Tulsa will host a presentation on global careers, cultural language workshops, a Study Abroad Fair and a performance night to celebrate OSU’s students and scholars from around the world. All events are open to OSU students, faculty and staff.
The activities kick off Monday, Nov. 16 with a presentation by Isaac Rocha, director of community relations and development at The Bama Companies. He will speak about the expansion of local business abroad and preparing for the demands of a global job market. The presentation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in North Hall 140.
A Study Abroad Fair is set for Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the North Hall Lobby. Information will be provided on scholarships and more than 20 OSU study abroad programs including trips to France, Mexico, China and Thailand.
Participants in the Global Footprint Series will have the opportunity to learn introductory Spanish and Chinese during their lunch hour. The Spanish session will take place Wednesday, Nov. 18 and the Chinese session is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19. Both sessions are from noon to 1 p.m. in North Hall 119. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.
The week of activities will conclude with International Night on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the OSU-Tulsa Auditorium. “Beyond the Orange” is the theme for the event which includes musical performances and fashions by students from China, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Russia, Iran, Morocco, Colombia, Jamaica, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Lebanon, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Jamaica and the U.S. The event is open to the public and tickets are $3 each.
International Education Week is a joint initiative created by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide and prepare students for a global environment.
