Classes begin for Oklahoma's first PSM
Enrollment is open for Oklahoma State University’s Professional Science Master’s in Environmental Sciences at OSU-Tulsa, the first graduate program of its kind in the state.
This innovative interdisciplinary graduate degree was designed for students interested in pursuing advanced training in science or mathematics, while simultaneously developing workplace skills highly valued by employers.
“Those with a strong foundation of science and mathematics backed with business fundamentals, project management, team-building and communication skills are in high demand,” said Howard Barnett, president of OSU-Tulsa and OSU Center for Health Sciences. “By earning a professional science master’s degree at OSU, our students acquire these desired work skills and gain an advantage in today’s increasingly competitive job market.”
Different from other environmental science graduate programs, the PSM degree provides students a springboard to industry-specific job opportunities. The combination of science with workplace skills and experience requires minimal additional training, saving employers time and money in professional development.
“The PSM program ensures that our students are prepared for the workforce when they graduate,” said Dr. Ken Ede, associate director of the environmental sciences graduate program. “These students will be equipped with practical, hands-on experience and prepared for a successful career.”
Graduate students will complete a capstone project and internship to gain additional experience. The PSM degree program is accredited by the National Professional Science Master's Association. OSU has offered traditional graduate degrees in environmental sciences since 1977, one of the first interdisciplinary programs of its kind in the nation, and has a 99 percent employment rate for graduates. Courses begin this fall with schedules to accommodate working professionals.
