New state law bans tobacco use on all college campuses
Oklahoma’s new “Smoking in Public Places Act” went into effect on Nov. 1, prohibiting smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco products on all campuses, buildings and grounds of an institution within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.
This new state statue reinforces the OSU-Tulsa tobacco-free policy adopted in 2008. According to the law, violators would be guilty of a misdemeanor and could be fined between $10 and $100 if convicted.
OSU-Tulsa employees and students who leave campus to use tobacco products are reminded to be good neighbors by properly disposing of trash and respecting the property of surrounding businesses and organizations.
