Teen social media use focus of Faculty Research Lecture

MertenMichael Merten, Ph.D., associate professor of human development and family science at OSU-Tulsa will present "Youth, Families and Social Media: An Always-On Connection," the 2013 OSU-Tulsa Faculty Research Excellence Lecture, on Wednesday, April 17 at noon in the Helmerich Research Center.

During the lecture, Merten will be joined by Steve Hahn, community education services program manager at the Parent-Child Center of Tulsa, for a discussion on the different ways that adolescents use social media to interact with parents and peers.

Sponsored by the OSU-Tulsa Library, the Faculty Research Excellence Series is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a sack lunch or reserve one for $8.95 by calling 918-594-8133 by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.

OSU-Tulsa workshop highlights the benefits of a graduate degree

Graduate Education: The Next Step graphicThe Graduate Student Services Center at OSU-Tulsa will host a special workshop for students interested in advancing their education with a graduate degree on Thursday, April 4 at 5:30 p.m. in North Hall 150.

"Graduate Education: The Next Step" will offer students advice on applying for admission, tips for obtaining positive letters of recommendation and writing quality statements of purpose. Participants will learn the benefits of a graduate education, the variety of degree options available, tips to prepare for entrance exams and the step-by-step application process including timelines and requirements.

Transfer Day offers one-stop admissions, enrollment opportunity

Students interested in taking classes at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa this summer or fall will have two opportunities take care of all admissions and enrollment during Transfer Days on Wednesday, April 3 and Tuesday, April 16.

Transfer Day will take place in the Administration Hall Lobby from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. on both days. Students can learn about programs offered at OSU-Tulsa, talk to academic advisors and explore campus during one visit.
