Marketing and Communications Services wins top award at OCPRA competition
OSU in Tulsa Marketing and Communications Services received the top honor at the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association 2013 Awards Banquet on July 15. OSU in Tulsa was selected Best of Show for the Get There From Here print advertising campaign.
The Best of Show award is selected from among the top winners in 33 categories, which include video, print, writing and web design from colleges and universities across the state. In addition to the Best in Show award, OSU in Tulsa also received first place in print advertising for the campaign, second place in website design for OSUinTulsa.com and honorable mention in full-length feature writing for Learning in the Field.
OCPRA represents nearly 40 public and private higher education institutions from across Oklahoma. The annual conference was attended by Dr. Mary Bea Drummond, director of Marketing and Communications Services and member of the OCPRA board of directors, Sean Kennedy, communications manager, Jamie Edford, web manager, and Ryan Jensen, graphic designer.
Benefits of graduate education focus of OSU-Tulsa workshop
The OSU-Tulsa Graduate Student Services Center will host a workshop on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in North Hall 150 for students interested in advancing their education with a graduate degree.
“Graduate Education: The Next Step” will offer students advice on applying for admission, tips for obtaining positive letters of recommendation and writing quality statements of purpose. Participants will also learn about OSU-Tulsa's graduate degree programs, get tips to prepare for entrance exams and receive step-by-step instructions on applying to the OSU Graduate College.

OSU-Tulsa researcher receives Bruker Corporation award
One of the world’s leading analytical instrumentation companies has announced that Dr. Masoud Allahkarami with Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is the recipient of its award for excellence in X-ray diffraction.
The Bruker Corporation has recognized Allahkarami, a postdoctoral fellow in the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering, as the winner of its academic achievement award for his paper “X-Ray Diffraction Mapping on Complex Geometry Surfaces Using Genetic Algorithm Optimization.”
The award is presented annually for the most unique application report and includes a certificate and $4,000. The winning paper was part of Allahkarami’s work on his doctoral dissertation under Dr. Jay Hanan, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering based at OSU-Tulsa’s Helmerich Research Center. It was chosen for the annual award by a panel of recognized experts in academia and industry.
