Academic Advisor – A student’s resource to academic services. OSU-Tulsa students are required to meet with an academic advisor before they enroll each semester. Realistically, your relationship with your academic advisor will be whatever you make of it. Undergraduate students are required to their academic advisor each semester to plan for the next semester’s classes, but your academic advisor can be much more than an interpreter of degree requirements. Your advisor understands how campus works, knows about faculty teaching styles, see the large view of campus as well as the details of what each student may need to find his or her place on campus and can direct students to needed resources.
Academic College – The degree-granting component of the university. OSU has six undergraduate academic colleges, through which students choose academic programs of study. Your University is OSU. Your college is one of the following six:

Bursar’s Office – The campus department responsible for billing and collection of charges incurred. Charges are itemized on a monthly statement issued the first of each month with payments due by the 15th of each month. The Bursar’s Office is located in the first floor of Administration Hall.
Catalog – The OSU Catalog includes course descriptions as well as rules, policies, and procedures governing the academic side of the University. An electronic version may be found on the Registrar’s website and a DVD version may be requested.
CID (Course Identification Number)
Common Final – Usually for courses with a large number of sections. A common final is scheduled at one time in several locations to accommodate the students from all sections of a particular course.
Credit by Exam (CLEP) – OSU awards credit for specific courses based on a minimum score obtained through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Additional information on CLEP exams can be found at the Student Success Center (North Hall 103).
CWID – Campus Wide Identification number. Students are assigned an eight-digit CWID to identify them in the OSU system. You may still use your Social Security Number to access SIS records or identify yourself, but you are strongly encouraged to memorize you CWID and use it instead of your SSN for security reasons.
Dropping – Dropping refers to the dropping of one or more courses while remaining enrolled in at least one other OSU course for a given semester.
Dropping and Adding Courses (Drop/Add) – Students may drop or add courses through the first six days of class (not counting the weekend) on the Student Information System. After this time, a “Drop/Add Card” must be signed by the academic advisor before being taken to the Enrollment Services Office on the first floor of Administration Hall. Note deadlines in the Academic Calendar.
Enrollment Holds – Enrollment holds will prevent a student from completing enrollment. A past due account with the Office of the Bursar, a past due account with Student Loan Accounting and Collection, academic probation or suspension by the academic dean, advisor holds, or admission probation by the director of admissions, international student orientation by the International Student Office, university counseling by the University Counseling Office, or a loan exit interview or student loan accounting by the Financial Aid Office, or a Immunization hold, are holds which may prevent a student from enrolling.
FERPA – The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy of students education records. University officials are not allowed to discuss a student’s records with anyone else without the student’s consent.
Final Grade Reports – Grade Reports are compiled and released shortly after the end of each semester by the Office of the Registrar. Final grades are not mailed to students, but are available via the student’s Student Information System (SIS) account.
NCB – North Classroom Building. Also referred to as North Hall.
MCB – Main Classroom Building. Also referred to as Main Hall.
O-Key Account - All OSU-Tulsa students are provided with an OKEY (Orange Key) account. This is your OSU email account where you will receive official correspondence from the University that includes billing and payment information from the Bursar’s office and important notices from the Scholarships and Financial Aid office. Pre-Finals Week – “Pre-Finals” week is the week immediately preceding finals week. During “Pre-Finals” week, no new assignment or exam that accounts for more that 5% of a student’s final grade may be given. No student or campus organization can hold meetings or sponsor activities requiring student participation.
Pre-enrollment – Students begin to enroll for the next semester after the mid-point of a current semester. A student’s enrollment date is determined by the total number of graduation / retention hours earned (not counting hours in which they are currently enrolled). Students should consult the SIS web pages for their enrollment date.
Prerequisite – A course or courses that must be completed as a condition for enrolling in another course. The Catalog states prerequisites for specific courses. GPA or number of hours completed may constitute a prerequisite.
Semester Credit Hour – All OSU courses have four digits. The first digit indicates the class year in which the subject is taken, although this is not exclusive to classification. The second and third numbers identify the course within the department / field. The last digit indicates the number of credit hours the course carries. A course beginning with zero carries no university credit. A course ending with zero carries a variable number of semester credit hours.
Student Success Center – Located in North Hall 103. The Student Success Center includes the Writing Center, Math Tutoring, Disability Student Services, Testing Center, and Minority Support Services.
Syllabus – A course outline, usually distributed during the first class meeting by the instructor. This document includes office location and office hours available, deadlines for completing assignments, textbooks and materials required, grading system and attendance policy. The syllabus serves as a sort of contract of expectations between the instructor and student.
Withdrawing – Withdrawing refers to withdrawing from all courses for which a students is enrolled for a given semester and therefore the student is no longer enrolled.
O-KEY ACCOUNT
All OSU-Tulsa students are provided with an OKEY (Orange Key) account. This is your OSU email account where you will receive official correspondence from the University that includes billing and payment information from the Bursar’s office and important notices from the Scholarships and Financial Aid office. To view your SIS, begin on the OSU-Tulsa Homepage at and click on “Student Info System”
SIS provides information about and connections to the most used student services on campus. Everything from enrollment and bursar payments to your professor’s Blackboard notes.
If you would like to look at available course listings, you may do so without logging into the system by clicking on the “available courses” link.
For actions specific to your OSU accounts, including enrollment, click on the first bullet: “Login to student services” to access your personal information through your SIS account.
Students can log into Student Self-Services either of two ways:
Student ID number and Pin Login: Your ID number is set as either your CWID or your Social Security Number. As students are added to the SIS database, PINs are automatically set to the student’s birthday. For example, if your birthday is May 31, 1980, then your default PIN is 053180. You will be required to change your PIN after your first log in.
O-Key Email address and Password: If you have activated your O-Key account, you may use your email address and O-Key password to login to SIS instead of using your ID number and PIN.
SIS is available Monday: 12:00 a.m. to Midnight, Tuesday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. to Midnight, Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – Midnight.
COURSE ENROLLMENT
Classes for new semesters are available on SIS one month before enrollment begins. Undergraduate students must meet with their Academic Advisor each semester to decide on appropriate classes. During the meeting the advisor will remove the enrollment hold and either enroll the student or provide the student with their trial study and the student can enroll themselves via SIS. Graduate students are not required to meet with their advisor each semester but are strongly encouraged to have an ongoing open dialogue with their chairperson.
To enroll via SIS:
Highlight the “Registration” link in the black bar at the top of your SIS page and choose “Drop and Add” Classes” from the pull-down menu.
Enter the call numbers in the “Add Class” boxes and click “Submit.”
The system will show automatically your enrolled courses.
Verify the information and determine if all sections were correctly added.
If the schedule is correct, go on to the Print Schedule section below.
If the schedule is missing a course or did not work properly, read the explanation given and respond accordingly.
To search for a course via SIS:
Highlight “Courses” from the navigation bar; click “Course Section Search.”
Check the “Term” display just above the “Subject” box.
Highlight a Department Name from the drop down “Subject” box and click in the box(es) for the day(s) you want to search.
Highlight a Start Time from the “Earliest Start Time” drop down box or a Start Time from the “Latest Start Time” drop down box.
Highlight a “Session” from the drop-down box, if desired.
Highlight a Course Level from the “Level” drop down box and click “Submit.”
Choose the course you want from the generated list by clicking on the “Call Number” of the course you want. Verify the course and click “OK.”
Verify that you are correctly enrolled by checking your “Currently Registered Classes” list and repeat as necessary.
Print your schedule.
Changing your schedule:
Courses may be added or dropped via SIS at any time before the sixth day of class. Please be aware short courses drop and add dates are different from those in normal academic semester, contact your Academic Advisor for those dates. After the sixth day of class, you must obtain a signature from your advisor and deliver the signed request to Enrollment Services in the first floor of Administration Hall in order to change your schedule.
Printing your schedule:
Highlight “Registration” on the navigation bar.
Click “Detailed Schedule” from the pull-down menu.
Click “Print Schedule.”
Due to privacy concerns, no identification number or name is printed on your class schedule. If you need to verify your enrollment for insurance or scholarships, you may access a secure site and request the information through the “Student Records” section. Just click on “self enrollment verification.”
Dropping a class on SIS:
Highlight “Registration” from the navigation bar and select “Drop and Add Classes.”
Review your “Currently Registered Classes” to locate the course you wish to drop.
Select “drop” from the drop-down box under “Action” next to the course. (If no action is listed for the course you may not drop it and need to seek guidance from your Academic Advisor.
Select “Submit.”
Adding a class on SIS:
The most effective way to search for and add courses after you’ve already enrolled is to use the course search functions to identify the class you want to add.
Highlight “Registration” from the navigation bar and select “Drop and Add Classes.”
Type the Call Number of the course(s) you want to add in the box(es) at the end of the page.
Select “Submit.”

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
Scholarships and Financial Aid help you locate the financial assistance programs for which you may qualify. Aid can be in the form of scholarships, grants, work-study or loan programs, or any combination of the four. Much of the aid is made available through federal and state programs. A number of programs have limited funding, so it is important to apply early. We understand the importance of financial aid in helping you achieve your educational dreams, and we look forward to working with you as you pursue your education at OSU-Tulsa.
To be considered for federal aid you should complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Student Aid (FAFSA). If you did not list OSU when you submitted the FAFSA, you can add OSU to your application. Once OSU has been added, the office of Financial Aid will receive the application information from the U.S. Department of Education and determine your eligibility for assistance. The school code for OSU-Tulsa is 003170.
To be considered for aid you should:
Be admitted to Oklahoma State University – Tulsa.
Respond promptly to any requests for additional information you may receive from the OSU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. You will receive written notification of your eligibility once all requested information is received.
If you receive a Federal Direct Lain, you will need to complete Online Entrance Counseling prior to receiving the first loan disbursement at OSU-Tulsa.

BURSAR’S OFFICE
The Bursar Office bills and collects tuition, fees, and other university related charges. “Bursar” is a term unique to higher education and means “keeper of the purse.” The Bursar Office also processes and disburses all federal and campus based funds to students’ bursar accounts and refunds any overpayments on student’s bursar accounts.
When you enroll as a student at OSU-Tulsa, you agree to pay all charges on your account when due. You also acknowledge that failure to make the required payment by the due date will result in the possibility of finance charges, inability to enroll in a future semester, and / or withholding of a transcript or diploma.
The Bursar Office provides a monthly billing statement on the last business day of every month detailing charges and payments that occurred during that month. The statement notification will be emailed to students at the beginning of each month. Payment is due by the 15th of each month.
Each semester, it is the student’s responsibility to check their individual bursar account to verify that University administered scholarships and waivers, as well as external scholarships, have been credited to their account.
The electronic billing statement is designed to make transactions easier to understand and provide previous monthly billing information. A University Billing Statement notification will be sent by email to your active email address listed with OSU-Tulsa.
You can view your billing statement online at http://bursar.okstate.edu and pay online as well.

GRADES
The quality of academic performance is indicated by the following letter grades: “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” “F,” “F!,” “I,” “NP,” “P,” “S,” or “W.” Descriptions of the grades are:
“A” Excellent
“B” Good
“C” Average”
“D” Below Average
“F” Failure
“F!” (F shriek) indicates the student failed due to a violation of academic integrity. Students may remove the first “!” (though not the “f”) from their transcripts by completing an academic integrity educational program.
“I” is given when a student who satisfactorily completes the majority of the course work with the average of “D” or better, but who has been unavoidable prevented from completing the remaining work of the course.
“NP” is earned for unsatisfactory work (including that evaluated as “D” in courses on the pass-no pass grading system.
“P” is earned for passing work in OSU-Tulsa courses approved for pass-no pass and pass-fail grading systems. Both credit hours and grade points are ignored in calculating grade-point averages.
“S” is given for satisfactory (equivalent to a “C” or better) work.
“W” indicates a dropped course.
“AU” indicates the student audited the course, and requested that it be recorded on the academic record. An “AU” is not a grade.

Career Services - The HIRE System
The Hire System is OSU's free job search opportunity system. It is an internet-based software program used by OSU Career Services to post internship and full-time job opportunities, and to manage the on-campus interviewing process. The HIRE System links employers to OSU students and alumni.
The system's database stores information about your qualifications, such as major, GPA, skills, etc., and your resumes. The HIRE System gives you access to an on-line calendar which contains information on interview dates, application deadlines, information sessions, and Career Services workshops and events.
Here are a few statistics about the power and usefulness the system had in the 2005-2006 school year.
- More than 2,800 employers actively recruit OSU graduates
- More than 10,000 resumes referred to employers.
- More than 561 companies attend approximately 12 different career fairs throughout each school year.
- More than 14,000 OSU resumes were viewed by companies through the web.
- More than 400,000 jobs are posted for OSU students each school year.

Need help with your writing or math assignments? Or do you just need some good advice on how to improve your study skills? If you feel that you could use some extra help in any of these areas, then come visit us in the Learning Services Center.
During one-on-one conferences, our consultants will help you with many types of writing assignments such as essays, research papers, creative writing and technical or business documents. Also, our tutors are available to assist you in a variety of math related assignments for business courses, engineering courses, and basic math courses. If you feel that you simply need some advice on how to manage your time or stress better, how to take notes in class, or how to prepare for exams, then you may be interested in our study skills workshops.

The OSU-Tulsa Public Safety Department seeks participation by all members of the OSU-Tulsa family in our community policing efforts. We want to provide you with direct contact with officers and personalized services as we enforce laws of the land and the University's rules and regulations.
As a service organization, the department offers a full range of police resources, including preventive patrols (24 hours), criminal investigations, crime prevention, facilities security analysis, event planning, and parking management and enforcement.
Overall, men and women of the OSU-Tulsa Public Safety Department believe in providing proactive law enforcement and prompt friendly service to you and the university community.

The counseling psychology clinic provides services to children over the age of 15, adolescents, and adults who are residents of the community, including students, staff, and faculty affiliated with Oklahoma State University. Services are provided by Counseling Psychology and Community Counseling Graduate Students, and supervised by faculty members.
Counseling fees are based on a sliding scale system. Fees are determined by the total yearly income and the number of persons living in the home. OSU students, staff and faculty receive the first 5 sessions FREE. $10 dollars each subsequent session.
We provide confidential counseling services. The clinic is fully committed to the ethical standards of the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and to all applicable legal standards.

BOB, OSU’s Big Orange Bus
BOB is the shuttle service between the Stillwater and Tulsa campuses for students, staff, and faculty. The charge for a one way student trip is $7. BOB offers:

OSU-TULSA IS WIRELESS
OSU-Tulsa IT has installed Wireless Hotspots all around campus. If you do find a location that has low or no coverage please contact the IT helpdesk and we will do what we can to ensure connectivity in that area.
Any OSU student, staff, or faculty member will have full access to the wireless network. LU students and staff who have access to use the OSU-Tulsa computer lab and library will also have full access to the wireless network. Guest and Visitors to the OSU-Tulsa campus will also have Wireless internet access .
There is no charge for connecting to the OSU-Tulsa wireless network.
OSU students, staff, and faculty have access to the internet, SIS, Blackboard, Web CT, Library Databases, and virtually any other resources you want to access. Guest to the OSU-Tulsa campus will only have access to internet resources.
The OSU-Tulsa IT helpdesk is available to assist you with your wireless network and many other computer related problems. The helpdesk is located in Main Hall 2302 and is open from 8:00 a.m. to midnight Monday - Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during the school term.
