The OSU-Tulsa Wellness Center Spotlight: Erika Gragg
OSU-Tulsa student Erika Gragg uses the Wellness Center 5–6 times a week. Since she spends so much time on campus, it is very convenient to take advantage of the facility.

Question: Why do you exercise so regularly?
Answer:  When I exercise, I am being totally selfish. I'm taking care of myself in a way that no one else can. I love knowing it is all about and up to me.

Question:  What equipment do you usually use?
Answer:  The treadmill and weights (free and machine).

Question:  What are the advantages of working out on campus?
Answer:  Since I am always there, it is very convenient.

Question:  What do you like about the Wellness Center?
Answer:  I love the personal side of it. Everybody is so friendly and helpful.

Question:  What could be improved in the Wellness Center?
Answer:  Space

Question:  Does utilizing the Wellness Center help control your stress level?  If so, why?
Answer:  Yes. Exercising is a great way to get energy (believe it or not) and release tension.

Question:  Additional comments?
Answer:  I would advise students and faculty who want to start exercising regularly to find out what they like to do and make it convenient. The Wellness Center is an excellent place to get started.

Mission:

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life and improve the physical and mental development that will lead to a healthy and rewarding life. We hope to achieve this by providing a healthy lifestyle environment, with programs, services, and facilities that meets or exceeds our member’s expectations. We want to encourage and motivate all participants to feel a sense of progress and accomplishment while using the Wellness Center. Our primary measure of success is member satisfaction.

Services:

Equipment Orientation

Wellness Center staff are available to meet with you to provide an orientation to equipment available in the Wellness Center. The session lasts approximately an hour and includes a warm-up, exercise instruction, and stretching routine. Staff members are also available to adjust your program to parallel your current fitness level. Please make an appointment.

Body Composition Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)
BIA is an easy-to-administer, noninvasive, and safe method of assessing body composition. BIA involves passing a small electric current through the body and measuring the impedance or opposition to current flow. Fat-free tissue is a good conductor of electrical current, whereas fat is not. The resistance to current flow is thus inversely related to fat free mass and total body water, both of which can be predicted by this technique. This service is free to all members. Please make an appointment.

Blood Pressure Screening:
Hypertension is a silent killer. We can monitor your blood pressure free of charge. No appointment is necessary.

Health Education:
The Wellness Center provides current health education information via emails, newsletters, and displays. If you need information on a specific topic, please inform a Wellness Center attendant and we will get the information to you as soon as possible.
