H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu) Awareness
Tips from the Oklahoma State Department of Health to protect yourself and others from the flu:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
Remember to properly dispose of your used tissues and wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand gel immediately afterward.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
- Stay home when you are sick.
Staying home
from work, school, errands, sporting events, activities and group
gatherings will help prevent others from catching your illness. Stay home at least 24 hours after your fever has ended.
- Wash your hands often.
Frequent hand washing will help protect you from germs.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when a person touches
something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or
mouth.
- Practice good health habits.
Get adequate sleep, drink lots of water, eat a healthy diet, and don't smoke.
