Being able to change direction at a moment’s notice is a skill that comes naturally for Ryan Jensen.
A typical day for the Oklahoma State University in Tulsa graphic designer might start with designing a poster, followed by taking photos at an event, then shooting video for an advertising campaign before collaborating on the next phase of the university’s branding strategy.
His talent and dedication recently earned Jensen the inaugural Randy Tally Rising Star Award from the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association. The award was presented during the organization’s Fall Workshop on Wednesday at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
“Ryan’s work has literally transformed the branding for OSU in Tulsa, particularly through the execution of the Get There from Here enrollment marketing campaign and the extensive Oranging Up efforts on campus,” said Dr. Mary Bea Drummond, director of Marketing and Communications Services for OSU-Tulsa and OSU Center for Health Sciences and a member of the OCPRA board. “OSU in Tulsa is so proud to have such an outstanding young professional with award-winning talent, artistic passion and demonstrated leadership be the first recipient of this state-wide recognition.”
The Randy Talley Rising Star Award recognizes rising communications, marketing and public relations professionals working at private and public higher education institutions in Oklahoma. Professionals selected for the award have demonstrated creativity, innovation, advocacy, expertise and integrity in the public relations field. The award is named for Randy Talley, a founding and long-time member of OCPRA who retired from the University of Science of Arts of Oklahoma earlier this year.
Jensen, a graduate of Northeastern State University, has been the graphic designer at OSU in Tulsa since January 2011. His previous experience includes positions at the Tahlequah Daily Press and NSU. Jensen’s design work has received numerous awards during OCPRA’s annual awards competition, including first place in print advertising for the institution’s Get There From Here campaign. In addition, this entry won the 2013 Best in Show award, beating out of more than 613 entries from other institutions of higher education from across the state for the competition’s top prize.
