Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum will serve as keynote speaker for the 2017 Oklahoma State University-Tulsa graduation ceremony on May 15.
The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Pavilion at Expo Square. More than 430 OSU-Tulsa students will graduate this year.
“We are honored to have Mayor Bynum as speaker for this year’s OSU-Tulsa graduation,” said OSU-Tulsa president Howard Barnett. “As city councilor and now mayor, he has seen firsthand how education can make a difference in the lives of our citizens and impact the local economy. His perspective will be valuable and inspiring to our graduates.”
At age 39, Bynum is Tulsa’s third youngest mayor. He previously served eight years as a member of the Tulsa City Council and was the youngest council chairman in Tulsa history.
Bynum was managing partner of Capitol Ventures Government Relations in Tulsa from 2008 until his election in July. Prior to his role in that firm, he was senior director of government affairs for Williams and Williams Companies and corporate communications manager for the company in 2006. He previously worked for U.S. Senators Don Nickles and Tom Coburn.
He has served on the boards of directors for Leadership Oklahoma, Leadership Tulsa and the Board of Regents for the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma. He is currently a member of the Augustinian Advancement Advisory Council.
Located in downtown Tulsa, OSU-Tulsa offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas including business, engineering, human sciences, education and liberal arts.
The graduation ceremony will be streamed live on OState.TV. For more information about the ceremony, visit www.osu-tulsa.okstate.edu/graduation/index.php.
