Financial Aid Awareness Week helps students learn about ways to pay for college

Finding a way to pay for college can be overwhelming and stressful, but Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is offering assistance during Financial Aid Awareness Week Jan. 28-Feb. 1.

Financial Aid Awareness Week offers help and resources for new and returning students in locating and applying for different types of aid to assist with the costs associated with earning a college degree.

“Securing financial aid is a vital step and we are committed to helping students locate the financial assistance programs for which they may qualify,” said Ashley Mellor, coordinator of scholarships and financial aid at OSU-Tulsa. “The events offered during this week teach prospective and returning students about different financial aid programs available to assist them in paying for college.”

OSU-Tulsa financial aid counselors will be answering financial aid questions on Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the North Hall Lobby from 3:30-5 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 30 in Main Hall Commons from 3:30-5 p.m. Throughout the week, scholarship and financial aid information will be available at tables in the North Hall Lobby and Main Hall Commons.

Graduate Student Services will present information on paying for master’s and doctoral degrees at Graduate Funding on Wednesday, Jan. 30 in North Hall 106 at 3:30 p.m. Several graduate education funding resources will be presented, including university scholarships, external resources, grants, graduate assistantships, fellowships and graduate funding databases.

OSU Financial Aid 101 will be Thursday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in North Hall 106. The presentation covers the basics of applying for federal and state aid, scholarships and tuition waivers.

A $250 tuition waiver for Fall 2013 at OSU-Tulsa will be given away at each of the Financial Aid 101 presentations and the Graduate Funding session.

All Financial Aid Awareness Week activities are free and open to the public.
