OSU-Tulsa student named OSU Senior of Significance

LaGroneOSU-Tulsa senior Crystal LaGrone has been named an OSU 2010 Senior of Significance. LaGrone is a political science senior from Haskell, Ark. and currently serves as president of OSU-Tulsa’s Student Government Association.

The Seniors of Significance Award is presented by the OSU Alumni Association and recognizes students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU. There were 41 students honored this year.

A public reception to recognize the winners and their families will take place on Dec. 2 at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center in Stillwater at 5:30 p.m.

New state law bans tobacco use on all college campuses

No smoking.Oklahoma’s new “Smoking in Public Places Act” went into effect on Nov. 1, prohibiting smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco products on all campuses, buildings and grounds of an institution within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.  

This new state statue reinforces the OSU-Tulsa tobacco-free policy adopted in 2008. According to the law, violators would be guilty of a misdemeanor and could be fined between $10 and $100 if convicted. 

OSU-Tulsa employees and students who leave campus to use tobacco products are reminded to be good neighbors by properly disposing of trash and respecting the property of surrounding businesses and organizations.

Learn about ways to pay for college during Financial Aid Awareness Week

OSU-Tulsa will host Financial Aid and Scholarship Awareness Week next week to help students learn about programs and scholarships available to help pay for a college education.

Representatives from OSU-Tulsa’s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will be in the North Hall Lobby on Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. to answer questions. An information table will also be set up in the North Hall Lobby Monday through Friday.

“Financial Aid for Newbies” will be presented on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Tulsa Room, next to the OSU-Tulsa Bookstore. Participants will learn about different federal, state and institutional financial aid programs, including scholarships, grants, work-study employment or loan programs.

OSU Theatre to present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Tulsa

Midsummer Night's DreamOSU Theatre will present the William Shakespeare classic, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," at the Tulsa Ballet Nov. 19-20 at 7:30 p.m.
