OSU in Tulsa announces first Icon Award winners

A Stately Affair in Tulsa LogoOSU in Tulsa will honor the inaugural Icons for OSU in Tulsa at “A Stately Affair” on May 23. The awards honor individuals or entities that have made significant contributions to Tulsa and Oklahoma.
The 2011 Icons for OSU in Tulsa are Ebb Reeves, D.O., McCullough II, D.O., Michael P. Johnson and the H.A. and Mary K. Chapman Charitable Trust. Visit the OSU-Tulsa website to learn more about the Icons.

Proceeds from the black-tie event at Southern Hills Country Club will fund scholarships for students who plan to attend the OSU Center for Health Sciences or OSU-Tulsa. This is the first joint fundraising effort for OSU’s two Tulsa campuses.

OSU alumnus T. Boone Pickens is the honorary chair for A Stately Affair and Mary Shaw is the event chair. OSU President Burns Hargis will serve as the emcee for the evening.

Tips for OSU-Tulsa Graduation Ceremony


Congratulations, Class of 2011! Here are a few tips to help make this momentous occasion go smoothly.

Monday, May 9
The Pavilion at Expo Square

5:30 p.m. Graduate Check-in begins
6:30 p.m. Graduation Concert begins
6:30-6:45 p.m. Graduate Line-up
7 p.m. Processional begins

  • If you or a guest will need special assistance because of a disability, please call Margie Axford-Watts in Student Disabilities Services at 918-594-8354 to make arrangements.
  • Seating is limited, so families should arrive early (prior to 6:30 p.m.).
  • Coordinate a post-ceremony meeting point with family members.
  • Leave all personal items (purses, backpacks, etc.) at home or with a friend or family member.
  • Mortarboard Caps: Mortarboards are worn horizontally (parallel to the ceiling) with the point directly in the center front.
  • Tassel: Wear on the right, front side of your cap until you receive your diploma (then change to the left, front side).
  • Hoods for Graduate Students: March in carrying your hood over your right forearm.

A professional photographer will take individual photographs as you accept your diploma and after you exit the stage.
