Takacs Named Director of American Studies Program

TakacsOSU-Tulsa Associate Professor Stacy Takacs was named director of the American Studies Program within the OSU College of Arts and Sciences, effective July 1, 2012.

Takacs received her Ph.D. in American Literature and Cultural Studies in 2000 from Indiana University and has been a core member of the OSU American Studies faculty since 2002.

Her most recent book, Terrorism TV: Popular Entertainment in Post-9/11 America, was published in 2012. 

Takacs succeeds Professor Laura Belmonte who has served as director of the American Studies Program since 2007.  Belmonte will return to full-time teaching and research duties with the OSU History Department. 

OSU-Tulsa Hosts Event to Remember Tulsa Race Riot

“1921: From Tragedy to Triumph - Bringin’ it Home and Keepin’ it Real” will take place on May 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the OSU-Tulsa Auditorium.

The performance is in recognition of the 91st anniversary of the Tulsa Race Riot. The program will include a variety of excellent performers who will satisfy the senses of the entire family through music, dance, comedy, African drumming and more. Larry Cochran, OSU-Tulsa faculty and instructional development administrator, will also perform during event.

Admission is free, but attendees are asked to bring two canned food items to donate to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. For more information, contact Katherine Mitchell at inhighestpraz@yahoo.com or 918-720-6420.

Cowboy Stampede heading to Tulsa

The Tulsa Chapter of the OSU Alumni Association will host the Cowboy Stampede on Saturday, June 8 from 4-8 p.m. at Ritchie Ranch, 16850 S. 33rd West Ave., in Glenpool.

Outdoor activities include a barbeque supper, Jupiter Jumps, hay rides and pony rides. Pistol Pete will also be at the event. A $250 OSU scholarship will be given away to one high school junior, senior or 2012 graduate in attendance.

The cost is $12 for adult members, $8 for children (4-18) and free for kids under four. RSVP online before June 1 or call 918-704-0054 for more information.

Lot E to close for Oklahoma Chautauqua

Starting Wednesday, Lot E at OSU-Tulsa will be closed to make way for the Oklahoma Chautauqua tent. The lot, located west of the Auditorium, will remain closed until June 11. Parking will be available in Lot B and Lot D.

Behind the Scenes: Hollywood’s Impact on American Culture” will run from June 5-9 at OSU-Tulsa. The annual event will feature some of Hollywood’s royalty, with tales of how cinema has helped shape America.
