Faculty receive awards for exceptional teaching, research

Two OSU-Tulsa faculty were recognized for exceptional teaching and research during the university’s graduation ceremony on Monday at The Pavilion at Expo Square.

Dr. Stacy Takacs, director of the American Studies program and associate professor of English, was honored with the President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching and Dr. Ali Nejadmalayeri, Jay and Fayenelle Helm Professor of Business and associate professor of finance, received the President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Research.

Takacs earned her Ph.D. in American literature and cultural studies at Indiana University and her bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education at Northwestern University. She joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University in 2002. Takacs received the OSU College of Arts and Sciences Summer Research Award in 2005 and the Teaching Excellence Recognition Award from Indiana University’s Department of English in 1999.

Nejadmalayeri joined the faculty at OSU in 2006 as an assistant professor of finance. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tehran, an MBA from Texas A&M University and a doctorate in finance from the University of Arizona. He has published numerous journal articles on topics ranging from managerial compensation to corporate ownership structure and governance. The recent focus of his research is fixed income securities, particularly corporate and municipal bonds. Read more.

Students urged to enroll for summer courses

OSU-Tulsa is urging students interested in summer classes to enroll as soon as possible. Summer sessions begin May 16, June 6 and July 5.

Undergraduate students must complete an Academic Plan form and meet with an advisor prior to enrollment. To schedule an appointment with an academic counselor, call 918-594-8271 or visit the Advising Center in North Hall 130. Graduate students with questions can contact their faculty advisor or contact a graduate coordinator at 918-594-8445.

Students must complete a Summer Enrollment Plans for Financial Aid form and the 2015-2016 FAFSA to determine eligibility for financial assistance during the summer. The school code is 003170.

Enrollment for the fall semester, which begins Aug. 15, also is underway. View summer and fall schedule information on the Student Self-Services website.

White honored for teaching excellence

Margaret White

Dr. Margaret White, Fleming Professor in Technology Management, has been selected to receive the Chandler-Frates and Reitz Teaching Excellence Award for her outstanding service at OSU-Tulsa. The recipient was selected by MBA students at OSU-Tulsa in recognition of her exceptional service.

White earned her Ph.D. at Texas A&M University. She joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University in 1986 as an assistant professor of management. She is the recipient of several teaching excellence awards, including the CBA Greiner Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in 1995, Outstanding MBA Professor in 2004, Spears School of Business Outstanding Instruction Award of 2005, Outstanding OSU-Tulsa Faculty Award in 2007 and the Chandler-Frates & Reitz Teaching Excellence Award in 2012.

Her research is focused on strategic alliance among multinational firms. White is the chair of the Research Methods Interest Group of the international Strategic Management Society. She has published numerous research papers and has been the recipient of numerous research awards.
