Movies, music and art will mark Tulsa's Juneteenth celebration beginning today. The downtown festival ends Sunday.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 when news that slavery had been abolished reach Galveston, Texas. That is more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in most of the country.

As part of the festivities, OSU-Tulsa is hosting "Examining Change: A Diverse Look at North Tulsa" in the Main Hall Commons through June 22. To learn more about events, visit the Tulsa Juneteenth Festival.
