Biography and CV

Dr. Ranji Vaidyanathan is presently the Varnadow Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Helmerich Research Center at OSU Tulsa. He directs the Next Generation Materials Laboratory at the Helmerich Research Center at OSU Tulsa. He is a Riata Faculty Fellow with the Riata Center for Entrepreneurship at the School of Entrepreneurship, Spears School of Business at OSU. He was previously the Director of the New Product Development Center (NPDC) and the Inventors Assistance Service (IAS) at Oklahoma State University for linking the innovative ideas and capabilities of small manufacturers and inventors with the knowledge and multi-disciplinary expertise of the land grant university faculty, in order to develop and commercialize economically competitive new products that strengthen rural economies, create new and enhanced jobs, capital investment and an increased tax base. At Oklahoma State University, Dr. Vaidyanathan works collaboratively with faculty members from various disciplines and colleges to develop products and solutions for Oklahoma small manufacturers. As the Varnadow Professor, Dr. Vaidyanathan works with the Helmerich Research Center (HRC) faculty to develop a major research and technology transfer thrust in composite materials. As a Riata Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship, Dr. Vaidyanathan works with small businesses and start-up companies to advance the technologies developed at HRC into enterprises and sustainable companies. Dr. Vaidyanathan also has a joint appointment with the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University.

Prior to coming to Oklahoma State, Dr. Vaidyanathan was the director for advanced polymer composites at Advanced Ceramics Research (ACR) in Tucson, AZ for 9 years. While at ACR, he worked as the PI on 23 Phase I and 11 Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) projects, funded by the Navy, National Science Foundation, NASA, USDA and Air Force. Ranji has a total of eighteen patents including sixteen U. S. patents. He has developed six different products from concept stage to commercial stage including Aquacore™ and Aquacast™ water-soluble tooling materials commercially being sold to Airbus, Eurocopter, Lockheed and Boeing at a level of $2 million per year. His previous responsibilities also included post-doctoral positions at Rutgers University, Johns Hopkins University and North Carolina A&T State University.
