The OSU-Tulsa Wellness Center will be running multiple activities and programs during the Summer 2016 semester. Please stop by the Wellness Center and talk to a Wellness Staff member to learn more about what the Wellness Center is offering during the summer semester. Some highlighted events are offered below:
National Bike to Work Month
Whether you bike to work or school; ride to save money or time; pump those pedals to preserve your health or the environment; or to explore your community, National Bike Month is an opportunity to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride. Grab your bike and participate in Bike to Work Week, which starts on Monday, May 16 and ends Friday, May 20. Feel free to share any photos or videos you take with the Wellness Staff Center while you commute. To learn more about the benefits of commuting via bike, please visit the Bike League organization website.
National Safety Month
Join the National Safety Council and thousands of organizations across the country as we work to raise awareness of what it takes to stay safe for life. National Safety Month, observed annually in June, focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the roads and in our homes and communities. Employees and students are encouraged to sign up for weekly tips on how to keep your family, friends and coworkers safe. The NSC will provide free safety material each week which will focus on:
Week 1: Stand Ready to Respond
Week 2: Be Healthy
Week 3: Watch Out for Dangers
Week 4: Share Roads Safely
To participate in this program, please go to the NSC Signup Site to receive your weekly safety emails.
National Firework Safety Month
Fireworks are synonymous with our celebration of Independence Day, but the thrill of fireworks can also come at a price if you aren't careful. Two-hundred and thirty people on average go to the emergency room every day with firework related injuries in July, especially around July 4th. Go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission website to learn about the dangers that fireworks can cause when used without caution, and read about different tips and resources you can use to promote firework safety at your work and home.
